Sparrow Health System Saves Time and Money with Web Site Content Management System
Lansing, MI-- Sparrow Health System of Lansing, MI., knows the value of a well-developed, frequently updated Web site.
Last October, Sparrow achieved record Web site viewership, with more than one million hits, and was recognized by Hospitals & Health Networks, the journal of the American Hospital Association, as one of the nation's "100 Most Wired" hospitals and health systems.
The popularity of Sparrow's Web site shows that when it comes to health care, more people are looking to the Internet.
And up-to-the-minute information has never been more important.
Sparrow has taken control of its Web site content with i2ools, the first affordable, secure Web site content management system.
A team of programmers at i2 Integration in Lansing, MI, has developed i2ools, an enterprise-wide content management system that allows organizations to create and manage their own Internet or Intranet Web sites.
Sparrow currently is using i2ools to redesign its PHPMM Web site, and for SparrowHealth.net, a consumer and health professional resource site with web links compiled by Sparrow's medical library. It also includes links to the Sparrow physician directory and HouseCalls, a weekly column that answers consumer health questions and also runs in the local newspaper.
"The use of I2ools will speed the time spent in the redesign process considerably," said Sparrow Web Administrator Annette Burge. "The redesign will take place in a matter of weeks instead of months."
Once the redesign is completed and the site is up and running, Burge said, "It will reduce the hours dedicated by one person to Web site maintenance by distributing the responsibility across the organization. This will eliminate the multiple e-mails requesting and sending updated information, and put the ability and responsibility for updates into the hands of those collecting and or creating the data."
No more outsourcing. No more lag time between requests for changes and when the information actually appears. Birth announcements, job postings, patient assistance materials and conference and support group information appear as fast as authorized users can type.
Before i2ools, comparable Web content management portal software cost an estimated $100,000, plus a yearly maintenance fee and up to $100 per registered user.
i2ools gives users the same capabilities -- typically at less than a third of the cost of comparable systems -- and never charges a per-user fee. Technical support is available 24 hours a day via e-mail, voice or customer support forums.
With i2ools, authorized users control the content, look and feel of their Web site, including graphics. With just an Internet browser, staff with little or no Web development expertise can make changes easily and immediately.
"If you've ever filled out a form online, you can operate i2ools," said i2Integration CEO John Forsberg.
"With an organization as large as Sparrow Health System, it would be impossible for our web staff to keep up with all the updates required for our main Web site, eight large-scale Web sites for divisions and affiliates, nearly 50 departments within Sparrow Hospital alone and the enterprise Intranet," Burge said.
"i2ools will let us distribute some of the work across the organization, allowing us to concentrate on expanding functionality and adding new content."
